Form 3 Review for Babeland

I asked Babeland if they could send me the JimmyJane Form 3 to review when it was first released. They weren’t able to, and I wasn’t surprised; it’s a high-end toy that’s much in demand, and I’m a very small fish in the sex blogging pond. So when they told me last month that they could in fact send me one, I was thrilled. I thought it would be perfect for me, and not just because it’s a clitoral vibe that’s silicone, rechargeable, has patterns, and is waterproof. I still use my fingers to masturbate quite often, I love when K uses his fingers on me, and the Form 3 is designed to add vibration to fingers! Awesome! Or… not.

Sadly, I come not to praise the Form 3, but to bury it. I have never had a more disappointing experience with a toy. Don’t get me wrong: it feels good. It’s strong, but has a wide enough range of settings that it’s not too strong for me. It has some nice rollercoaster patterns — I prefer Fun Factory and Ophoria patterns, but other people might like Form 3′s best because the vibration never totally shuts off. If all these elements were combined in an easy-to-use, simple vibe, with a good shape, and the price tag were lowered, recommending it would be a no-brainer.

But the Form 3 is not easy to use. The buttons are tiny and the vibe feels too small in my hand. I also have to think about which button will control the strength and which the patterns, and fiddle with it to get what I want. I don’t want to think about my vibrator when I’m playing, I want to think about my fantasies. Trying to remember which button to push on my totally modern toy when I want to be imagining I’m in neverwhere, with a dashing man doing wicked things to me, is annoying.

The shape is the Form 3′s selling point. Some people have said it feels like a tongue, but I am flabbergasted by this. It doesn’t feel like a tongue or a mouth. It doesn’t feel like it’s licking, sucking, kissing or nibbling. It feels like a thin, smooth piece of admittedly velvety silicone vibrating on my clit. Like a vibrator. It doesn’t work with the way I masturbate with my fingers, either; I can’t really rub through it. I found that using my fingers to create simple pressure works best. Moving my fingers up and down along it feels nice too, but that doesn’t give me orgasms.

I have to spread my legs apart quite wide to get the Form 3 on my clitoris properly at all, which is not a problem I’ve had with any other toy. Since I don’t have one of those huge circular tubs, it means I can’t use the vibe in the bath. For me, that is a huge disappointment.

JimmyJane has pushed the Form 3 as a great toy for use with a partner. First, I have no idea how this thing would stay between partners during missionary position sex without the bulbous part that houses the motor digging into one of or both of you. I don’t know how it would remain in place on the clit, either. I need to push on the membrane at all times with my fingers for it to work, so I’d need to keep my hand and arm in between K and me, which would work okay when he was holding himself up I guess, though no better than any other vibe.

The Form 3 looked fun as a toy for K to use on me, though, adding vibration to his touch. K’s great at using dildos on me, but not so good at clitoral vibes; maybe the Form 3 would be the answer! Nope. He had more problems figuring out how to use this toy than other vibrators, I kept wanting him to ditch the vibe and just use his fingers, and its vibration made his hand tingly and numb.

I had hopes the Form 3 would work well for me to use on my clitoris during anal sex, but that was  plain impossible. The best I could do with it was a general vibration of my labia. I have to spread my legs far apart to get the toy in the right spot, and that does not work for the anal sex positions we use at all. A simple, straight vibe does the trick — the Form 3 does not.

The last time I tried to use the Form 3, I gave up quickly and switched to the closest vibrator to hand, which happened to be the Spring. My body relaxed into it and told me, “oh yes, this is how you do it.” That simple, straight shape may not be a groundbreaking design, but it is ubiquitous for a reason. Reinventing the wheel might sound good in theory, but you’ll most likely end up crashing your cart into a ditch.

Stars - 2 out of 4Some reviewers love the Form 3. I wish I did. I wish I could say that it’s worth every penny of its hefty price tag. Maybe if it were about $100 less, I could justify recommending it as something novel to add to your toybox. But while it feels pretty good, it does not feel $150 worth of good. If you want a sex toy that’s worth over $100, get the Mustang. If you want a high-end, rechargeable, waterproof silicone vibrator, go for the Spring, at half Form 3′s price.

Thanks, Babeland, for sending me the JimmyJane Form 3 to review!
